Angela
Burns
Angela Burns is a well known Dunedin artist.
She specialises in painting and has been doing so for the
last twenty five years. Angela graduated in Painting, Ceramics
and Sculpture from the School of Art at Otago Polytechnic,
then later went on to graduate in Museum Studies and Art
History.
Angela's
art work reflects local land forms and scenes, in a somewhat
expressionist and abstract manner. Angela is particularly fond of fellow women
abstract expressionists such as Lee Krasner, Eva Hesse and
Joan Mitchell. In the numerous reviews on her work however, Angela's paintings have been compared to great New Zealand
artists like Milan Mrkusich and Tosswill Woollaston.
In
recognition of her work, Angela has been presented with
the following awards:
Cleveland Art Awards, Merit award (2000)
Cleveland Art Awards, Merit award (1998)
Cleveland Art Awards, Honorable Mention (1996)
Mainland Art Awards, Third Prize (1995)
Telecom Awards, finalist (1995)
Kaitaia Aotearoa Arts Festival, 2nd prize (1990)
