Barry Clarke
Barry Clarke lives in Christchurch and although he no longer lives near the sea, he carries it with him to his shed in the back garden where he makes and paints his boats.
I have some Alfred Wallis postcards on the wall, a souvenir from SETE in France and bits on drift wood and pebbles from Kakanui.
Barry was in the merchant navy from 1963 until 1972 and was determined to paint when he came ashore in 1972. He is largely self taught but has spent some time in St Ives in Cornwall and took life classes in London.
