Geoffrey
Robinson
Geoffrey Robinson was born in East Africa in 1945 and studied at Bournemouth College of Art from 1961. He is a British artist who spent several years of his childhood in Nelson, NZ. Geoffrey always had a passion for art, and worked as a commercial artist for 25 years. Then in 1997 he decided to start painting as a full time artist. In 2004 the ITV Meridian network broadcast a half-hour television documentary about the working practices of Geoffrey Robinson.
Geoffrey is also included in three books in the UK. One is based solely on 12 of his paintings titled: The Dreaming Paintbrush. Another is focusing on the English artists’ colony of St. Ives. The book is called “St. Ives Revisited – Innovators and Followers” and is published by the art historian Peter Davies.
The work of Geoffrey has received much acclaim and his numerous solo exhibitions throughout the South of England, Belfast and America bear testament to his reputation. His paintings are held in the public collections of the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, St George's Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and the private collections of Lord David Puttnam CBE and George Michael.
In March 2008, Gallery De Novo was very proud to host his first New Zealand exhibition -Tabletop Perspectives. The show was very well received and was sold out within the first week. Having represented Geoffrey for the past 6 years, Gallery De Novo has helped develop a strong following of his work in New Zealand.
