Jono
More
Born
in 1983, Jono grew up in rural South Canterbury. He always
had a passion for nature and the environment and his childhood
explorations would often uncover Moa bones and Maori artifacts.
His backyard also contained inspiring Maori rock art in
limestone overhangs, which have recently featured in his
woodblocks.
Other
distinctive New Zealand elements which dominate Jono's work
are cabbage trees (ti kouka), flax (harakeke) and recently
images of the Hector and Maui Dolphins - in his Popoto series
of works (see below). This body of works is very topical
due to the current campaign to protect these dolphins.
As
well as being an artist, Jono is dedicated to conservation
and received a BSc from Otago University. He works today
as a wildlife conservationist and has combined this career
with that of an artist, being commissioned by the Department
of Conservation to create works. His works have been sold
world wide to various collectors.
