Liam
Barr
Liam
Barr was born in Scotland and emigrated in 1974
growing up in Lyttelton, Banks Peninsula. At 20 he travelled
extensively overseas before settling in Perth, Western Australia.
Over the next 14 years he worked as a graphic designer turned
painter before moving back to New Zealand. Liam now resides
in Wellington.
Liam’s work talks about mythology, relationships,
landscape, cultural identity and personal journeys.
"My art starts from a flash and quickly takes on
a life of its own. I don’t try to nut everything out,
rather I let the narrative develop. This process excites
me, realising works that speak to our collective experience".
His current work reveals a narrative pastiche of New
Zealand culture where irony, satire and playfulness are
used to magnify and perhaps draw a long bow to the duality
of cultures within New Zealand. Gallery De Novo has limited
edition giclée prints of Liam’s original paintings
available. Each of these beautiful archival standard art
reproductions is hand signed and numbered.
