Nic
Dempster
Having had strong encouragement from his art teachers, Nic Dempster developed his talent for painting at a young age. New Zealand artists such as Colin McCahon, Rita Angus, Doris Lusk, Toss Woollaston and Nigel Brown have been the driving force of his style and subjects.
He first found inspiration in the rugged landscapes of his family farms. This love of his rural surrounding has been inflected into his electric mix of subject matter. Nic likes to feel that his work in some small way documents the past, but at the same time, is able to exude a timeless appeal.
In July 2007 Nic held his 2nd solo exhibition just prior to leaving to live in the United Kingdom and has resided there ever since. As Nic has travelled, he has diversified and adapted his contemporary style to the more traditional of scenes and subjects. Nic has had great success selling his works to people and art groups from throughout New Zealand and abroad.
Nic's first solo show in the United Kingdom, in Whitstable Kent was held in June 2009. He then held his fourth solo show at De Novo Travelling Through in October 2009. This show was another major success for the artist. De Novo and his followers are looking forward to Nic returning for his 2010 show later this year.
