Patterson
Parkin
Originally
from Britain, Patterson has been exhibiting his paintings
in New Zealand since 1978. His work is diverse in its subject
matter and medium. His first body of work to be exhibited
was painted in a Fracturism style - following on from the
cubist movement of the 1930s. He has continued to paint
in this style, particularly in his nudes and musician works,
but in 1988 also made the transition into wall assemblage
paintings which consist of shapes, covered in canvas, treated
then painted with acrylic or oil paints - each being beautifully
made and painted
His
main focus is always on the surface of colour and textures,
how they juxtapose to conjure the emotions of the view to
think outside of the square. He is a full time artist, and
his works are included in collections throughout New Zealand,
Australia, Japan, UK, Scotland and USA.
