Weston/Frizzell
High
performance art partnership Weston Frizzell is the duo of
Otis Frizzell and Mike Weston. Since 1998 the innovative
Weston Frizzell creative partnering of graffiti artist/illustrator/celebrity,
Otis Frizzell with producer/ designer/manager Mike Weston,
has evolved into a diverse and prolific art and media collaboration.
As
Otis Frizzell and Mike Weston's collaborative identity,
the Weston Frizzell brand has built a reputation for slick
work with tight production values. Weston Frizzell apply
sampling and cutup techniques to a creative process informed
by dada, hip hop, situationism, graffiti art and techno.
They occupy a cleverly conceived niche, firmly rooted in
the street art and pop culture melting pot of Auckland's
K rd, branching out into the world of art business and most
recently venturing into the branding of fine wine?
The
Weston Frizzell 'Behave' painting series has inspired Odyssey
Wines to produce a special limited release wine in an art
package. The iconic 'Behave' concept was an immensely popular
limited edition of paintings on board.
Weston
Frizzell's application of the idea to the much praised Odyssey
Wine, brings street appeal, fun and a less than "serious"
approach to art and fine wine appreciation.
Weston Frizzell demonstrate a mean eye for NZ art history,
media, and pop culture. They appropriate from a broad set
of cultural sources, reconfiguring visual elements and graphic
styles then reworking with hip illustration and a combination
of cutting edge and traditional printing techniques. Created
is a coherent and diverse catalogue of fine art prints in
a variety of media.
Works featured include s both collaborative and solo works
from both artists, including the much anticipated 'Behave'
screen print in two colour-ways, new archival inkjets and
a series of Otis Frizzell lithographs produced at renowned
Muka Studios.
