Lynn Taylor

Dunedin printmaker and visual artist Lynn Taylor lives and works from her ‘Lighthouse Studio’ at home on the Otago Peninsula.

In 1984 Lynn graduated with a Bachelor of Education focusing on specialist art teaching. In 1998 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Dunedin School of Art followed by a Master of Fine Arts. Lynn’s association with the School of Art is ongoing and through art residencies and teaching workshops, the two streams of art practitioner and teacher intertwine.

Lynn incorporates print, digital, textile, paint and written mediums into her art practice often including tarnished copper detail stitched into final work. This combination of multiple printmaking techniques makes for interesting textural compositions. Her works are driven by an interest in research and become fragmented layers of historical references and meanings and stories part told.

Her themes vary, but the moody and evocative are present in all her workings and she often sneaks her favourite theme, the sea, into her collections. Ever since Lynn was a child she has had a special affinity with the sea, when out on a boat or swimming, she has a sense of being home.

Lynn has exhibited in Australasia, Scotland, Japan and the United States and her work is held in many national and international private collections and has received a number of awards.
