Philip Beadle

Philip works in oil, water colour, drypoint and monotype. He enjoys working with form, colour and light, especially low winter and evening light which facilitates the wide tonal range in which he relishes.

Living in the South Island Philip finds plenty of city and rural landscapes an immediate source of inspiration - in particular the Canterbury plains and mountains, as well as the Central Otago lakes, vineyards and mountains.

He enjoys travelling and also painting overseas locations as well as regularly meeting with a life drawing group and incorporating the female nude into part of his work.

1959 - Born in Christchurch, New Zealand
1978 - 81 - Auckland University - studying architecture
1983 - 89 - Lived in the Mackenzie Country working seasonally at Ohau Ski Area, water colour painting and screen-printing with the mountainous environment for inspiration
1992 - Travelled and painted in Canada, USA, South America, France and Spain
1993 -Started working with acrylic and oils and exhibiting in group shows – joined regular life drawing group and set up studio
1995 - Etching course at Christchurch Polytechnic and developed skills in monotype and dry point
1996 - Painting trip to England, France, Switzerland
1998 - First solo exhibition
1999 - Painting trip to France and Italy
2006 - Painting trip to France and Italy
2001 - 07 - Annual exhibitions at Millwood Gallery (Wellington) and Little River Gallery (Banks Peninsula)
