Jenufa Waiti

'My work is a collison of ideas. For me abstraction often seems like the most meaningful  and relevant response to life'.

Jenufa currently lives and works in Dunedin.  She is not afraid to be experimental with her art and materials.  She is well known for her vibrant and emotive use of colour and often uses a wide variety of materials in her work over the 30 years she has been creating art.

Her involvement in sculptural practice has spanned over 15 years and has resulted in several awards during this time. Jenufa has also been exhibiting as a painter for a number of years. The diversity, affordability and creative elements of Jenufa’s artwork have found numerous admirers throughout the country.

"As a painter I work intuitively.  I try to maintain a curiosity and interest in my surroundings allowing that energy to act as a springboard for a creative idea or expression.  Colour is my love.  I'm drawn to colour and colourists and find I'm not able to function well without regularly saturating myself in the reassuring majesty of colour.  I often involve myself in other creative pursuits, but for me painting is the most visceral, enduring and enchanting."

Gallery De Novo has represented Jenufa since October 2008 and her works have proven to be very popular in this time. Included in her 2010 show were canvas paintings – four of which were works of still life with a dedication, and recognition, to notable international artists such as Sydney Nolan, Milton Avery and Mary Fedden.
