Courtney Robinson

Courtney Robinson is a Dunedin artist who has developed her remarkable style of painting from curiosity, stubbornness and trial and error.  Despite having no formal art training her talent as a highly detailed painter is evident in her work.

Flowers are a popular subject with this artist, and she likes to portray them as wild, emotional forms.  She plays with spatial depth using a soft focus background against a highly realistic foreground.   These floral works are less about botany and more about feeling. Each painting becomes a character of its own, complex and unpredictable, which also why she likes to title them using names from film and television personalities. Those names act like emotional anchors, hinting at the mood, story, a connection or inner turbulence she sees in the piece.
